In global competition, PHAP won 2nd place!
Yesterday, the results of the international architectural competition for the design of the new district at Prague’s Florenc were announced. A total of 15 studios from across the EU will ultimately participate in shaping the area.
What was the essence of PHAP’s proposal for Block 04?
We perceive the defined area as a single whole and therefore adopt a unified approach to shaping the building volumes. The massing is divided into individual functional units, resulting in three separate buildings. These are complemented by green inner courtyards, creating a diverse range of public, semi-public, and semi-private spaces.
By inserting green courtyards and a passage leading to the railway promenade, we articulate the building masses and give the development a human scale. The volumes are shaped into individual towers that gradually rise toward the Magistrála. Each of the three buildings has its own expression corresponding to its function and position within the site. The standalone residential building clearly defines the entrance to Na Florenci Street and to the Masaryk Railway Station platform. Receding stone slabs create private living loggias and terraces.
The hotel has a solid, calm, and confident expression. Its robust form provides guests with a stable and quiet refuge close to the very center of the metropolis. The residential building on the eastern side of the block is conceived as a brick sculpture referencing the history of the site. The openings are composed in an irregular pattern.
